I stared longingly at the aggressive dive planes covering the wheel arches of Ascari’s Le Mans racing prototype. With sun all year round, it was the perfect setting to assess the true performance of three of the latest road cars: a BMW M3, an Audi RS4 and a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG.Īs I walked down the pit lane I passed a familiar shape peering from underneath the metal shutters to one of the garages. It was designed by the owner and my former team boss, Klaas Zwart, and replicated twenty-six of the most challenging corners from Grand Prix venues like Spa and Zandvoort. The circuit nestled inside a range of rugged mountains dotted with sparse Andalusian foliage. We flew to Malaga in Spain and stayed at the opulent Ascari Resort. Volk ze40s are pretty damn nice and I daily Titan7 ts-5s at ~17.5lbs. My current 18” wheels are also pretty light ~18lbs. I know I am close because at the end of last season I was seeing some slight pad taper, so if i push harder and get more heat/fade and more taper, I will known its time. I would like to run with the widest tire I can fit to see if I am really getting to the limit of the stock system. Now most of the bbks i am looking at will also lower weight significantly, but im not gonna spend that money just yet.

I will not down size discs if I want more thermal capacity, so I’ll be looking at a 355mm disc plus caliper. Offset isnt the problem, it is disc diameter.
